Hotel Kocibelli – Korçë Hotel
With it’s 75000 inhabitants, Korçë is a mid-sized city in Albania. Hotel Kocibelli is smack in the center of this city. And for a hotel in the center of a mid sized city this is one of cheapest we ever encounted. This does not however impact the quality negatively. Everything in and around the hotel is nice and clean, the rooms are clean and spacious. You would never think that you were paying between 20 and 40 euros per night.
The city suffered most from both the communist and nazi regimes and there are enough marks to prove this. There are however also less grim sites to view like the Christian Orthodox Church which is a quite a nice sight:

The hotel has always friendly staff who speak their languages; we heard German, Greek, English, Italian and Albanian. People in Albania hotels sure seem to know their languages as we have seen this in more places we visited. Further the hotel has plenty to offer; if you can’t find it there however, just hop out the door into the center and check out the buildings, feel the small city, have some drinks in the sun.
Don’t forget to rent a car (if you didn’t bring one yourself) and visit the Prespa lakes; it is definitely worth it.
